It's that time again...

ivydoorIs it the holiday crazies? The long break between series? Or just the weather?
Either way, I've been mulling over recent fandom events a bit.
I don't like having to lock fandom stuff. I also don't like being paranoid behind my own locks. I really try to have faith in basic human decency, despite what's out there. But when I come across things like people on wank_report throwing names of good, reasonable people out there because they can "see several people's locked posts", I begin to question my own judgment.
I'm a pretty darned forgiving person. I've seen things said by people I know and have trusted about myself and folks I've gotten very close with over the past year. Not very nice things. And at the risk of jeopardizing my close friendships and my own self respect, I've forgiven those who have said these things and allowed them to know things about myself and my family that not even people who see me daily in real life know.
Now, because someone is out there twisting truths based on things said behind locks, I'm seriously having to reconsider certain choices I have made. I try to get along with everyone, but it seems I'm more tolerant than intelligent. When I start thinking "Man, I'm going to end up filtering ALL my fandom posts now", maybe it's time to get tough.
So I've made my first ever flist cut. If you've been cut, I'm very sorry. It means either I feel you may be involved with something I feel is a cancer in fandom or it may be because you haven't posted in a while or because I feel our interests have diverged. Maybe someday I'll reconsider this action, but for now, my decision stands.
I hope that one day, actions like these will not be necessary.
